The
following is a list of supplies that you will need to gather
for your homebirth:
- 2 bottles hydrogen peroxide
- rubbing alcohol
- 1 gallon distilled water
- 2 large size garbage bags
- unopened pkg. Cotton balls
- unopened pkg. Paper towels
- plastic liner for bed
- 4 sheets-2 fitted, 2 flat
- 6 washcloths
- 8-10 clean bath towels
- soft newborn outfits and diapers
- 8-10 receiving blankets (note: You will need to have 2
on hand)
- 2 baby hats
- large trash containers (if you don’t have these,
laundry baskets will work too)
- You will also need to purchase sanitary pads because there
are not enough for the entire postpartum period in your
birth kit.
- If you are planning a waterbirth you will need to get
a small clean fishnet, sinking thermometer, and a new hose.
Please
have these items gathered by 36 weeks and put in a safe place
where "little fingers" won’t be tempted to
open them!
Directions for making bed:
1. Put fitted sheet and top sheet on the mattress
2. Put plastic liner on top
3. Put another fitted sheet and top sheet over plastic liner
Food:
Please have on hand plenty of apple juice, gatorade, broth,
and other easily digestible foods for labor. Since an IV is
not placed you must be nourished orally-you need to drink
at least 8 ounces of water every hour during labor and have
some source of protein-that can be anything ranging from a
protein shake, yogurt, cheese, meat sandwich, or chicken soup,
etc.
(Also, remember that your midwives will need to eat).
